I'm having an issues with my hubs. Just did a front knuckle kit and after putting it together I saw that I can lock my hubs (and I checked) but they won't unlock. Truck is on jack stands. I can hear the relay running for 4 seconds when I press the Hub button, but once I undo the button, nothing happens. The motors just stay still. I'm thinking this might be a relay problem somewhere.

I'm looking up electrical in my manuals right now, but I thought I'd ask also.

Thanks in advance!!!!

I have... just turns one way when I press the hub button to lock and then when I unlock.. nothing happens... found there is a e-hub ecu... gonna pull that tomorrow and see if its a relay or bug my buddy to swap with him to see if its that.

Check the slip ring for power with a circuit tester, should light up for about 4 seconds when hub button switch is cycled in and out. If you have the slip ring off you can also check the little window contact on the spindle.

Like I said.... hubs work. They just don't reverse to unlock the hub when I turn off the hub switch. I don't know if there is something I'm missing. Hoping someone on here has had the same thing happen to them.

Brushes looked ok when you had it apart? Did you put any electrical grease on the slip ring? You retained the brushes using the little holes when you put it all back together?

Sometimes I think I can't hear the motors, but they have actually gone. Try turning your drive shaft by hand to see if it's just an alignment thing maybe and the hubs will pop out?

Otherwise, doing the electrical testing suggested above is definitely the next step.

My hubs lock but will not unluck. Yes I installed them back together properly... the motors turn both ways with a 9volt battery.

I pull the caps off the ends of the hubs and I watch the motors spin only when I press the button in. I can unlock the hubs manually and reinstall them and hit the lock button and they lock, but nothing I do will unlock them unless I take them apart and manually spin them unlocked. I do not understand how better to explain this unless I make a video.

I had the 4wd ecu out last night and pulled out the relays in that and they tested good. Reversed them and reinstalled then on the circuit board and still no go on the unlock... just lock. I have a guy at work who thinks he knows what the problem might be with the ecu. If I can't figure it out I'll just wire in a reverse switch for the motors up on the dash I guess or switch it out with Matts.

Sounds like you are on the right track..... If the relay is working fine but its not getting a signal to activate.
Have you checked the switch? Might have a dirty contact when to release it????
As you have said before the system works on a timer..... Push button in, provides voltage to hubs and turns the motor for so many seconds, release the button and it signals the ecu unit to switch polarity and operate again for so many seconds...

Ill just use the auto locking system to do it but just have the switch reverse the polarities.

If it is the switch, Postoy found a parts Prado in your area somewhere. He said the prices were reasonable. Maybe just swap the parts out?
