Quotes

I got a few over-the-phone quotes, most places insist on using cheaper imported springs, though a couple have Aus made springs, but at a much greater cost. For example, West Coast Suspensions (also Jenkins Springs), can supply & fit a set of imported springs made to their specs overseas - $2189 fitted, alternatively, they can make their own right here in Perth, but at a much greater price (didn't get quote).

WA Suspensions quoted me roughly $2000 - $2500 for a set of import springs, or they can fit Lovells for about an extra $1000. Don't know about you guys, but I'm not altogether comfortable spending $3500 on my suspension!

The best quote I got for Aus made springs was from Malaga Springs and Suspensions (Thanks Clint ), $2,600 for a full dobinsons 50mm raised kit fitted. The dude on the phone was also really helpful and was straight to the point.

So it seems this will be no cheap undertaking .... then again I never anticipated "Old Yella" would have been.

Cheers,

Matt

Sounds about right, from personal experience I'll never put springs made out of imported steel in one of my vehicles again.

I put a complete OME lift on my troopie, he recommends Bilsteins for the shocks.

Thanks for the tip, man, but I live on the other side of this planet to Colorado :p

Excuse the sarcasm, it had to be done!

Are you talking about the same troopy you're currently restoring?

I have 2 1/2" springs on my lhd fj40 and some kind (probably ironman) of lift on my rhd troopy. The only rubbing I have on either, which I have on both, is the drag link from the steering box to the center arm rubs the shock body, mostly when that tire droops off-road. I have 33x9.5x15 on stock 15x6 rims on one and 33x12.50x15 on sunrasias on the other. The tires don't contact any of my steering parts. If you have issues with tires rubbing steering, you may have the wrong backspacing on your rims.

BTW, I paid about US$750 for 4 OME springs for my troopy, but that was bare springs--no bushes, shocks, shackles, etc. Not sure how that compares with OME prices down under. We have very few options for 45/47 series without going to custom manufactured.

good luck with yours.

Its all about the details. Living in Oz can't you buy them from the factory?

Peter

I did the OME heavy on the troopie I'm restoring

He could, but he would have to go to Malaysia to see the factory where they are made. OMEs have not been made in Oz for about five or six years.

Cheers,

Josh
