lexus rx 300 info. needed

I have a 99 Lexus rx 300.
The engine light comes on and goes off and some other lights come on randomly.
Where can one buy a computer to plug in and to read the codes for this car ?
Then after reading the code what next ?

Also does anyone know a decent guy familiar with these cars in Calgary Alberta ?

At least here in the US, we can take it to a local auto parts store (Autozone, Advance Auto, O'Reilly, etc) and they will do a scan for free.
