4rnr,
It looks like you have ditched the rear coils. How do like that setup your running compared to the coils? Do you have a traction bar? More, or less travel? More, less body roll?
Nice rig btw, it's amazing the difference between the 3vz and 5vz!
Justin
Thanks
I cant really compare the manners of the coil vs the leafs since I only had about 1" of lift and 35's on the coils. As far as roll goes, I had bad roll when the springs were fresh and tall, and before I lowered it (22" to the frame). Now its OK, with no sway bars. But coils have the potential to be way worse and better than leafs, just takes tuning. Leafs are brainless...so perfect for me.
I knew that in order to keep the coils I would have had to start from scratch. Nothing from the stock setup could have been used. So basically I was going to have to wipe the frame and axle clean anyway and go from there. I dont see much if any advantage to links (coils, c/o, air shocks...) over leafs for a big top heavy wagon that will never see giant rocks or high speed whoops.
Also I do not trailer it, so it see's alot of road miles, and the leafs are pretty planted and easier to maintain. If I ran links here in the midwest with the mud and salt, I would be rebuilding joints every year to keep the truck tight enough to drive on chicago toll roads. (though I am a big fan of rubber bushings over heims and RE's)
I was more interested in balance, strength, and simplicity, than flex (the single most over rated thing in wheeling IMHO). So I wanted to run the same leafs front and back. Some of my buddies have done links and they have been forced to limit their travel basically to where my leafs are, and I rarely lift a tire.
anit-wrap bar is on my list, though I have been running without one for 6 years.
3.4 is amazing. I can cruise down the highway in OD, and still get 18-20 mpg in that truck.
