I'm new to Land Cruisers so help me out.

There's a 1988 BJ74 for sale in Alberta Canada (ebay). That would be legal to bring to USA, right?

I'd post the link here but I'm too new to this forum and I cannot yet.

excerpt:
1988 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ74 VX FRP, RHD. 3.4 Turbo Diesel 4x4 Rust Free
13BT motor 5 speed manual 4WD manual hub lock

Go for it .........
One word of caution ...... From my experience A/C systems seldom need "just recharging".

Thanks guys.
Not sure about flying to Alberta from Virginia to find it's a dud.....

"no rust, never been off road, PTO never been used" say's a lot. Probably should road trip up there and check it out, before you wire the funds.

Short of a personal inspection which I would certainly recommend, I would ask for DETAILED photos of the wheel arches, door bottoms, rocker area and frame.
Perhaps one of the area club members can inspect it for you.

I did ask for more photos of underneath; good to have more specific areas of concern.

You can import it if it's 25 years or older so an 88 is legal, BUT they ALSO go on the manufactures month of built, so if it was built in 12/88 not yet but from my experience every DMV is different and every DMV agent is different...

I would be concerned on the rhino lining sprayed almost 3/4 up on the left side only, and none on the right, but nice metal plates on the bottom, and bottom of the back doors --normal rust area's.

I would assume the miles are not correct

Yeah, one pic shows fog lights and different wheels. So maybe it was gussied up and covered up before it was put on the market.

Although they are far from numerous, 70 Series are starting to show up in increasing numbers both here and on Ebay, many of which are already in the U.S. I suggest taking your time and finding the best one possible that meets your budget requirements.

Yes, the idea of buying a vehicle sight unseen makes me very nervous.

On the positive side, my insurance carrier is not concerned about RHD.

Virginia DMV is harder to get through to.

Chrisspaulding ('MUD handle) among others may be able to help you source a LHD Cruiser if you decide to go in that direction.

That would be even better, if the price is right.
I want to (clean up and then) sell my '07 F150 in order to pay for the Cruiser purchase. Or most of it.
My school teaching year is about to start so if I have to wait for the right one to come along that will be okay.

You are right, I thought it was just over 25 years, but it is just under. To be safe wait until December for a 1988 model year :)

I'm thinking, now that I've found this forum and the good people and info here, that I'll keep looking and wait for a vehicle that's closer to hand that might even be LHD.
Thanks for all the help! It's great to find folks willing to help with advice based on experience.

I'm struggling to find an insurer for a right hand bj73, who is your carrier? Any other advice on carriers that will cover RHD much appreciated. Many thanks
