Good thred. Noticed a leak yesterday when I was using the LC to jump start my Land Rover. I had the engine reving around 3000 rpm, while I was sitting in the rover turning the engine over I started to smell some burning. Took me a second but I noticed it was coming from the Cruiser (irony?)

Shut down the Cruiser and drove the Landi the rest of the day. Later on I found the leak and just like the others on here it was the PS valve cover gasket. Going to see if I can just snug it up for now.

Thanks MUD!

my '99 does this when the weather gets cold....I just tighten the bolts and no more leaks (for a while).

Just had my value covers redone as my passenger side was leaking pretty bad, 99 with 205k,

New guy here - 2000 LC. I live in houston and mine leaks a couple of drops on the floor in the winter, and only when it is really cold.

I am going to try to tighten the VC bolts a bit.

You will more than likely need to tighten ALL the bolts (with torque wrench to approx 5 lbs). Tightening some will prob make the oil leak more out of the un-tightened areas. I have a 2001 LC and there are 18 bolts (9 each side). Keep an eye on it

also its pretty unlikely that the valve cover leak will make it to the ground. most if it will burn. your issue is probably something else.

No it's the valve covers. I inspected them on a lift yesterday. It happens only when it is cold and the car had sat for more than a day.
