I have leak under the hood which is new to me. Left home on Monday and went Pemberton, D'Arcy, Seton to 100 Mile. Had a small leak under the hood and assumed it was a small power steering leak. Went to Barkerville and stayed at the Wells Hotel (which by the way has has great selection of scotch over 220 types). We drove from Quesnel today and are staying in Merritt tonight.

The leak is now quite significant and I discovered it is not the power steering. I have rear differential oil leaking out of the breather for the ARB air locker line and dripping in and around power steering area. Anyone ever experience this? Is it possibly as simple as a plugged breather line from the differential?

Try simple things first, I would check the breather line.

I'm heading up through Merritt to Kamloops tomorrow, likely into Merritt around 11am or 12pm if you need anything brought up, let me know.

Are you sure this is 80/90 leaking out? Do you have a socket to pop the fill/check plug off the diff and check the level. At the same time check if it is pressurized. It shouldn't be feeding back on the air line from the ARB compressor to the locker. There are several seals in the way of that.

well if you see a white 80 still at the super 8 stop in and say hi :-)

sure smells and looks like gear oil. Stopped in at a local shop just at closing to get a second opinion and the mechanic thought the same as I did.

you got gear oil on your frame!!!!! crap put two and two together man.

s***e am i drunk or do i see double in the first pic?????????????????????????????????????????????

Have you tried pulling off the diff breather (especially when it's warm) to see if there is pressure? With it pulled off, try turning on the locker and see if you get air blowing out the diff breather. When you do, just fire up the compressor for a quick second at first to see if it's running normally and shut it down if it sounds different. Don't need to kill the compressor. The wind and the engine fan will make any leak under the hood look like you just lost 10L so you might not be losing much.

I have a slight paranoia of worst case scenarios with the LC. First one we owned 11 years ago (85 BJ60) we seized the rear end on the first day and 4 months later lost a transmission coming out of Mexico back into Texas. Since then the worst case fears.

I pulled off the breather and blew into it. The one way is definitely plugged so I have removed it. I then opened the dif plug and let the excess drain out (into the gravel from where it came). Hoping that resolved it. I am surprised that the dif oil made it's way back out of the air line though. The ARB seems to be running fine although I have only had it for a month so that is a bit of an assumption.

Thanks for the advice.

Many problems can be caused by plugged diff breathers - every oil change (when I remember) I pull off the hose and blow compressed air through the breather hose to blow any dirt out the cap vent.

Had same problem, before I did all the stuff you did I just toggled the arb a bunch of times and it would squirt a little out. Unplugged the breather made sure the diff. Wasn't over filled and the problem stopped.
I changed out the breather hose and all has been good.

All turned out good. Brad, I toggled the ARB on and off after I drained some fluid and disconnected the one way vent. Problem solved. Thanks all except Tmax you bastard ;-)

Got a question. Does that Counter Act corrosion thing actually work or is it snake oil?

Lance, it stopped working about 1.5 years ago. I have definitely noticed more rust in the time it stopped working.
