hey i have recently bought a bj70 swb landcruiser with 3b motor and i love it

but i want to put old man emu 2inch leaf springs in it with extended shackles to give me total of 4 inch suspension lift.

i was thinking to then measure the articulation of the springs with no shocks on and order some bilstein shocks to correct length.

Do the extended shackle sound like a good idea? if not why?

also i want to know if this will give me lots of wheel travel for offroad use?

i read on this forum that longer leafsprings will give more articulation.

is this correct? can i use 60 series leaf at the front and rear with extended shckles instead? how much more will these give than the 70 series ones?

what effect does this have?

Thanks!

Longer springs will give better flex, but you may need to change the position of the mounts on the chassis. You don't want the shackle angle to be near vertical, then you won't have much down travel. Also 2" shackles will only give about 1" lift

The OME spring will give you more like 3" of lift.

The OME shocks are too short... you can do better by fitting others or modding the mounts.

Extended length shackles are not really that good an idea as they stress the springs a lot. A bit longer is okay, but much over about 20mm is questionable.

You can use the rear springs up front as well by relocating the front perch forward a bit on the frame.

The rear leaves on the rear of a 70 series are the same as a rear on the 60 series. The fronts on the 60 series are shorter than the 70 series fronts.

For what it is worth, I recently lifted my 76 with the ironman suspension. The new leafs and mount points gave me right at 70mm of lift in the rear. 2.76inches.

hey can anyone confirm that rear bj70 springs are exactly same as the rear of a 60 series? if i can get a 3 inch rear springs from EFS as they dont make a kit for the bj70

also i have heard that the 60 series front spring is actualy 2 inch longer than the stock bj70?
can it be used without moving the mounts?

in this forum if you scroll down how does the red MWB cruiser get so much flex this is what i need.

also these are the shackles i want to run are they good? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOYOTA-L...prg=1011&rk=1&sd=251253231093&#ht_1403wt_1397

thanks

Hey yeah, red one is my old one, silver one is my new one any questions just ask. Most of the info is in that thread. On the read one I did a "ruf" rear springs up front, with 2'' extrnded shackles. Awesome flex as you can see, 2'' extended shackles on the front are s*** though, hit everything. My new cruiser, the silver one has slightly longer than most lifted springs but standard shackle length, much better good flex and hits less s***. Up the back, yes 70,71,73,74 series all use 60 series rear springs. Weight ratings aside. I found off the shelf the longest rear springs i could get were EFS springs. Note I modded mine to 11 leaves with a big fat overload leaf.

If you have flexy springs expect to wear stuff out, all my springs are now toast, worn out and bent etc. IMO massive flex unless rock crawling is overrated. The silver one ended up with reasonably good flex and balanced front to rear with a swaybar in the front. Massive flex is good for rock crawling but not much else. I do some hard offroad stuff and have never felt I needed more flex, sure it lifts wheels but I can drive the wheels off it. I like a balance where it is still decent on high speed dirt, which I am trying to do now as I need to re-work my springs or coil it.

60 front springs are ~2'' shorter than 70 series front springs so wont work and are no good. Showing off pics cause I can, also with massive flex you will need massive clearnace, the red one had ~10mm lower than stock bump stops and ~60mm cut out of the guards and standard 31x10.5R15 tyres still scrubbed.

thanks for the reply

at the moment i have a problem with my bj70 when ever i got ofroading in ruts my diff get caught and wheels come off the ground

then i go nowhere

i was thinking some lift and abit more flex?

can you recomend some good leafs springs for this use? EFS dont make leafs for the bj70

i can get 3 inch 60 series EFS rear springs but what about the front?

i also plan to use federal M/T 33 tyres if it makes any difference.

Thanks!

Just wandering if
LT33/12.50R15

Size tyres will fit a stock height bj70
As im thinking to get tyres first then lift

If not will a 2 inch lift from extended shackles allow them to fit?

Thanks
