Hey - i have been on the hunt for rear leaf springs for my 73

I came across a thread w a gent who custom makes them and it wasn't alcan but cant find his info - if you've got it can you please repost

I also found at some point a E tailer who stocked two name brand replacements but also lost the info

Anyone gave a lead for me ? Thanks

look in the yellow pages of your nearest large city for leaf springs, or spring manufacturers. There's a guy local to me who will do re-arching, or scratch custom building just like alcan, only a tiny bit less pricey. NOW alcan has the FJ55 just about worked out FWIU, but depending on where you are, and what's available to you in your area, you may be better off having customs done, or you's rehabbed...OR, swap to the 70 series OME springs...

The front and the back are not the same right? LilJon has a set of fronts for free for the next (very) little while.

front and rear PIG springs are center pinned.
FJ60 front springs are about a half inch shorter than front PIG springs and their pins are offset favoring the fixed pin hanger. FJ60 rears I wanna say are about an inch or so longer than PIG rears, but again, their pins are offset. I'll check again tomorrow, but I think the rears are a decent option for the PIG, MIGHT bolt in without moving the axle too far forward, but you may have to bump the front eye hangers back on the fram to keep the axle centered...I can't recall what I decided about that option....hafta revisit it. The 60 series rears were gunna go up front on the pig I think- Yep THATS it, and they aren't good candidates for the rear. They go up front and give you a better shackle angle...the rears I think the Tahoes 54" springs are about the best shelf kept option if you can't afford the OME 75 series rears- either way has you relocating the front and rear hangers on the back suspension. A custom spring is going to be the only bolt in option for the rear...

to recap:
FJ60 front springs are useless to my PIGS
FJ60 rear springs IIRC should bolt in up front on a PIG but longer shackles most likely will be needed and you'll have a nicer shackle angle than you do now- could even have em extra arched for some additional lift and still maintain decent shackle angle>I'll expand after I have a chance to get out there with the tape measure...
FJ75 rear OME springs that Kurt sells are a good Land Cruiser swap but require cutting/welding and alignment of the hangers
Tahoe rear 54" springs come cheap and in varying load capacities, but require cutting/welding and aligning hangers
Custom springs are pricey but come in the capacity and lift of your choice and will bolt right in

There is a link somewhere in mud that I once found for a gent who will pump out a set of rears for about 425 including shipping - going bonkers trying to find the dude!

Alcan in SoCal, but Pighead knows a guy in Sacramento...you might shoot him a pm if he doesn't pop in soon...seriously check you local metropolis yellow pages. every BIG city has a spring manufacturer...in Fresno, CA, there is Eberwien Spring, as an example. BUT, like all the older arts, these guys may well have been slowly forced out of the market in favor of disposable things:mad: single serving society...rest easy, Robert Paulson

ouch! how dare you state alcan is in the evil republik ;) alcan is on the western slope in colorado.

I don't see states- I'm stateblind:flipoff2: you guy only got to "cool" cause a what we did in ahhaas, eyte?

Im east coast not lucky enough to have west coast cool shops... As soon as I find a shop ill be sure to post.
