LC Headlight Lens Outer Material?

Curious:

What is the material of the outer lens of the headlight on LC ?

Plastic or glass ?

What year? My 2000 LC is Glass - I know for sure because a rock took out a tiny hole in it on my drivers side. If it is your 99 LX, I am not for sure if Lexus is the same

LX went to polycarbonate in '03+. I suspect the new LC ('06) headlights are also poly since they are one piece w/ the corner lights.

My 2001 LC was glass. Had to replace one because a rock put a hole in it.

I think you guys should invest in getting a clear 3M type film installed on your headlights. They have a thin, thick and REALLLY freaking thick, like 26mil or something. I got the 19mil film installed on my headlights, still waiting to do the corners, since i had to get a special one cutout for my clear corners.

Now when i knock on my glass headilghts, they just feel that much stronger! Also, it kind of gave my headlights a refinished fresh look to them.

The polycarbonate ones can take some pretty good rock impacts. My guess is that's why they changed them. Unlike lots of cars I've seen w/ cheapo plastic headlights, these don't seem to fade or turn yellow & hazy. My honda prelude lamps came w/ some kind of film over them. I guess the designers KNEW they would be taking lots of rock impacts!

The newer plastic Lexus headlights have a greenish tint to them. Its a UV-inhibitor. The older headlights, like the SC and such, didnt have that and that is why they haze over so much easier.

I second the 3M film usage. I've been using it for years on all of my vehicles. Never had a problem with cracked lenses. The price is right too!
