I think you can do this without purchasing new shocks but it will limit the travel of your new set up. If you do a lot of wheeling, it can put extra stress on your shocks when fully extended. If funds are tight, just save up for some new ones when you can afford it.

Not an endorsement, but I just bought 'interim' shocks, Skyjacker Hydro 7000's. After discount, free shipping & rebate, they will cost me $102 for all 4.

nice i like those doetsch tech 8000's what length or style basically should i get? or should i get up off my A$$ and measure them myself

Give lowrange a call and tell them what your doin, they will know what shock length you should use.

okay cool will do that thanks for your help

We have used stock Landcruiser '80 series rear shocks. They are bolt on fit, proper length (longer than runner shocks) and ride well. They are good quality gas shocks, valved for the heavy 80 and IIRC about $30ea from Dan.

He is the parts manager at American Toyota in Albuquerque, give a good discount for Mud members. https://forum.ih8mud.com/ih8mud-com-vendor-marketplace/17873-getting-cruiserdan.html

Another group to checkout is the local club; AZ- Copper State Cruisers

I have a pair of used shocks, your welcome to them. They "feel" good, but if nothing else will work to test fit, confirm they are what you want, before buying new. I'm off to Moab, so would have to make it to my shop in central Mesa by early afternoon or will be back 5/9.

how much for the shocks? I am in east mesa but i am tight on money at the moment. i could buy next week or the week after, probably after u get back from moab

Kevin, what do you recommend for the front - shock wise. Will 80 OEM shocks work well in the front also?
Still ignorant with the 2nd Gens.

This is a question for a 2nd Gen outfitted with rear OEM 80 coils in the back and 1.5 BJ spacers in the front.
Thanks.

They are yours, they are off of a rig we put a lift on. I only saved them because they looked good and thought someone my want to use them on a 2nd gen.

IIRC we used Suzuki Samurai replacement shocks for the front? The front isn't as critical, the stock Runner shocks don't limit is as much as the rear.

One you can buy is Rancho 5167 (for the Samurai) front replacement for the 2nd Gen with LC coils and 1.5 BJ spacers. I'll use 80 series shocks from CDAN for the rears.

Thanks Kevin for the Suzuki Samurai replacement shocks suggestion. Used it to Google and found lots of info to verify the usage.

A good resource-

There are many threads out there with so much chatter. You have to filter through a lot of posts where you get more ?s than the answer you're looking for.

This pretty much sums up what is needed - minus some parts for what I want to do.

I just want to add that building up a 4runner is cheaper than a Land Cruiser!
