Surprised I haven't found much in the 200 Series forum on this. Liftgate sometimes doesn't unlatch/unlock all the way the first time I press the button and try to open the liftgate. Press it again and it unlocks. Fails like 15% of the time.

I know from past experience that Toyota loves to use those stupid little slot car motors in locks. Is that whats going on in this case? And assuming thats it, has anyone replaced or rebuilt the rear actuator on the 200 series. Whats involved and is it more feasible to replace or rebuild?

Make sure that you are not pressing the latch AND the lock/unlock button at the same time. They are in close proximity to each other and will cause the issue you describe. My kids do it all the time.

Ya, I think if people actually lean down and inspect the two buttons under there, or just look at them when up...people would stop pressing the wrong buttons. :)

They are kind of poorly laid out...because the protruding door-lock button is litterally right next to the latch release--which is flat and super wide. Leads to "mystery beep" questions all the time.

I’m pressing just the release. If I grab the button and pull the lift gate at same time it opens. If I press the release and wait a split second it sticks. Pressing a second time it opens. If there’s a little motor in there I think it’s starting to go. It also seems to be sensitive to temperature changes. Just like my Lexus locks were when they were starting to go.

If I just press mine and don’t pull...it hangs too.
Gotta pull it a bit, but mine has always done that.

Could be the switch going out. I had similar symptoms, progressively getting less and less likely to work until it finally gave up the ghost. The switch is like $75 and pretty ubiquitous (same as the Prius!). Works great with the new switch.

part nâme/number?

I have no horse in this race, but McGeorge is 8 bucks cheaper and I've found both vendors very reliable.

I actually picked mine up from the local dealer (Toyota of Kirkland for the record)- they’ve been within a couple bucks of online pricing when I call and give them the part number I need. Usually a net savings when factoring in shipping on relatively small stuff. Maybe yours is similar....

Nope. The dealers in NW Austin have the highest prices around and most of them won't budge much. Several have been bought out by Penske and that's made it worse.
