the saga continues...

after battling with my Fj45 fuel tank for WEEKS, I finally just bought a Creme liner kit to put inside the tank to seal all the pinholes and then I Herculined the exterior of the tank.

It worked good...dayum good...too dayum good I was careful to follow all instructions, I even got creative and used a tube inserted into the fuel outlet so the liner didn't seal the outlet.

There is now 10 gallons of fuel in the tank and I can't get a single drop out... I can't even smell fuel... I shaped a wire hanger and did my best to clear the outlet. I don't know what the pickup line looks like inside that tank (perforated?) but I expect it's completly coated with liner

My only idea at this point is to drain the tank and pour a solution in the outlet to eat the liner out, of course I could have paid for a fuel cell many times over by now!

Ideas & smart a%* remarks accepted, sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying.

I thought about doing the same thing to my 40 but figured it would end up a cluster F+++ kinda like yours. So, I took mine to a radiator shop and had it cleaned and lined there for 100 bux, so far so good, you may still wanna try a rad shop to see if they can reverse the damage

Acetone will dissolve the liner. Pour a little into the pickup line and wait, purdy up your nails while your at it. Too late for this but on the next tank, hook your compressor up to the lines and keep air flowing at a low pressure until the sealant sets.

the liner kit came AFTER I had it boiled and sealed...it still leaked, probably worse that before I started.

I'll try the acetone tonight and the air is an EXCELLENT idea, I knew there was a better way!

After using a wire to try to clear out the line I finally gave up and poured pure acetone down the pickup line and waited...no luck, still couldn't even blow air into the tank.

So in a act of desperation I poured some xylene I had leftover from my Herculiner application and it cleared the tube. I then rinsed out the tank with gasoline and re-installed it in the truck & she started on the first try!

Creme Tank Liner

We've used the stuff for years on antique BMW motorcycle tanks and there's one thing that you have to watch. Don't let the tank sit for long periods at or near empty. I've had the stuff actually pull away from the sides of the tank after I followed the prep instructions to the 'T'. I stored the bike for a winter with the tank empty. What a mess! When it's stored full = no problems.
