The kids & I went down to play in the river yesterday - probably the last trip down there for the season - water was cold and the day didn't get very hot! There was alot of trash down there  We picked up probably 2 dozen beer cans & bottle, bunch of clay birds and about a pound of assorted brass.

On the way back we took that short spur that goes up the hill just above the rock slab and the other sttep bit. Got out and hiked up as much of the big rock formation there that we could get to. Here are a few pics...

There were some climbers up on the other big dome...

We found this plaque on top of one of the domes.

And then we saw these guys a few miles N. of Divide on the way back. I think we counted 14, and there was another smaller bull with them.

Eric,

Very nice trip report. Any more details on the ware bouts of the bull elk would be appreciated.

There was a house just to the left of the picture I posted. This was on the right on the way back into Divide - I'd guess maybe 3 or 4 miles.

When I get home tonight I'll get the GPS coordinates from the EXIF data ... assuming my camera had a lock at the time.

Guess I didn't give the GPS time to update - the elk pics still have the coordinates from the granite domes. Here's another pic that shows part of the house - I bet if you drive up 51 you'll recognize it.
