Got a chance to check out the Founders day Landrover event at the Agriplex... Ran into Graham over there... good way to kill an afternoon...

I really liked this one it was some sort of military radio vehicle... I didn't actually fit the antennas completely in the pic... the interior was like an airplane cockpit with levers and gauges everywhere...

I really liked the RTI event... a good break from looking at vehicles the whole afternoon... I managed to get the contact info of the ramp owner... I think this would be really cool event to add to the cruiser days show...

I think this guy was locked or something... he didn't know his front wheel was off the ground and was happy to keep driving right up the ramp...

It was well attended as there were about 60+ vehicles... which surprised me considering how few Landrovers were at cruiser days...
 
Yep - Great show and great folks. The ramp really adds to the spectacle and would be a great addition to our thing. I challenged the President to a 'Ramp Off' (he has a very nice 110) but he slithered out of it...lol
 
Should check the insurance implications of 'ramping' at public events as I have seen trucks on their sides doing that.
 
Yeah well the roverlanders manage it every year. Could it be that their trucks are safer than ours, thus posing a better risk management scenario to their underwriters? Shocking!
 
RL put on a good show and the venue is a good choice too given the January timeline. And yeah, teeter-totter and/or rti ramp to add interest. Also short off road course out back for fun.

The rti ramp has been something brought up about every year since CC started doing cruiser days I think? But the idea somehow always seemed to get shut down. Wouldn't a signed waiver solve the liability issues?

Glenn, that guy is either an idiot for charging the ramp or he intentionally wanted to flop his exocaged toy.

There is no problem having a ramp at Cruiser Days, or a teeter totter.

We can always get participants to sign a waiver before they try either event, no biggy there.

The challenge is finding volunteers to pick up the ram/teeter totter, set it up, supervise the event and take it home at the end of the day.

Personally, I think it would be a lot of fun, but since I'm fairly consumed with other planning activities for the event, I haven't pushed it.

An off-road course/mud pit; unfortunately, that's not permitted unless of course we can return the park to exactly the way we found it afterwards! ;)
 
I think we should pursue the ramp. U cruiser approached the owner about renting it and I think he was agreeable.
 
Sounds like a couple of volunteers to me! Thanks guys! :D (Seriously, it will be a hoot)

Let me know the rental $ when you find out.

We can even donate a prize to the truck with the furthest travel up the ramp and one for the rollover (if that happens!: big roll of duct tape and a some bubble wrap)
 
Sure I don't mind volunteering as long as Sailor ramps last for obvious reasons... :D

Another interesting tidbit, is if you look closely at the second ramping pic, you will notice that the ramp is actually registered as a trailer, thanks to the correct use of a minivan axle... So the setup should be somewhat painless...

Lastly, the key to making something like this work is public safety... At our venue we are not challenged for space so we should be able to section off an appropriate area and mitigate that risk...

Anyhow, nothing that needs to get resolved here, but if we at least can be open to it, and if we get a few more volunteers, then perhaps this is something that we can consider doing...

Time, money, storage, transportation, etc. for the amount we use it (once a year, maybe 2 if we're lucky) it's not worth the hassle....
Now, if there was a business ...say one that specializes in ....I don't know ...building trucks ;) then it might be a good idea for them to invest in making such an animal for both their benefit of testing new rigs as well as advertising during a show ....
hint, hint .....

OK So we rent it. Problem solved. Who picks it up and returns it?

i guess it depends on your resources and how motivated you are. for example, i work in a fabrication place where sometimes, enough material goes in the scrap bin to build ten ramps in one given day. i could also offer to use my shop to build it. i would say it would take about one weekend to do with a few guys.

so money: pretty much free.
somewhat hard: not one bit
storage: cant help you there.
rental: sounds good. LOL
