Hi all, don't know if anyone can help me, I have a 1999 100 series (Amazon) 4.2dti and it has the dreaded brake issue.
IV read everything I can find about this issue, both here and on other forums. but nothing that I have tried seems to have helped.
The symptoms are as followed
- abs light and buzzer on
- accumulator pump/motor switches on intermittently indefinitely
-bleed brakes with all new fluid and no air in system that I can see.
- peddle is soft but has some resistance at the end of travel
- if you hold your foot on the brake peddle, when the accumulator pump clicks on, you feel the peddle pump back up and then when the pump clicks off, the peddle goes back down again.
- there doesn't appear to be bubbles in the tank when the pump's clicking in and out (Which I understand would show a faulty pressure switch?)
- iv replaced the piston unit inside the master cylinder (genuine Toyota part) and cleaned the internal filters (neither of these made anything better or worse)
- when you bleed the brakes the fluid seems to come out at a good pressure, but car barely stops (and obviously the ABS light and buzzer is still on)
-put a new accumulator pump/motor on which had no effect either.
- crack off the pipe coming straight from the accumulator/pump and that seems to have good pressure when switched on
Does anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to fork out for a new unit from Toyota and frankly I can't afford it, alternatively does anyone know anyone in the UK that I could send it to or get them to rebuild it/ have a look at it?
Thanks for reading, I await eagerly for responses, all the best, George
