if you order is at 87 bucks. Shipping will be about 40(guessing) then ups will charge brokerage(40-50 bucks) then you will pay duty as it is not covered under nafta. That 87 dollar part ends up costing 200 bucks.

I ordered in the past a bunch of stuff from SOR. The shipping is always the cost of the goods or more.

I prefer to just buy it locally if available.

Having ordered a knuckle kit for the 80 with wheel bearings and a 4 piece 555 brand TRE kit from Kurt @ Cruiser Outfitters shipping via USPS was $20 and duty was $5.

Total cost to my door was under $325 CDN, given that I am in Alberta I would have had to pay shipping either way and the EBI total for just the knuckle kit and bearings would have been $355 plus tax and shipping. It looks like EBI wants $51.00 for a single 80 series TRE though...

Like skeletalmachine if a more local company had the parts for a 10% premium no problem, but I am not paying a 75%+ premium to support them.

its only five dollars cheaper with wheel bearings as far as i read it ebi's kit comes with koyo bearings for $170 , the online one is $165 ?

am i missing somthing ???

The EBI kit comes with knuckle bearings but does not include wheel bearings, see above.

You will get fantastic customer service from Kurt at CruiserOutfitters and yes, he will spend 20 min on the phone explaining things to you. If you live close to border go and get yourself a parcel receiving acct. at Mailboxes Intl. $10 a year and $2 a package receiving. Go down and get your stuff yourself, get some cheap fuel, cheaper shipping and many times customs charges you nothing.

EBI's kit does not contain wheel bearings and you are most likely still supporting the US economy when you buy there.

IMO, it is not just a question of supporting the Canadian economy where possible. It is about supporting a local business who does a lot to support a local LC club and its members. EBI fits that description.

When the price is close- sure. But we're talking half the price. It's an obvious choice.

you just want to be sure your comparing apples to apples.... this is a once in a 100,000 km or more event.

Vendors cannot escape the duties and taxes on individual purchases. Their overhead costs money.

But many times we expect them to have the goods right there for us.

It's not just supporting a local business with one purchase it's many.

Sure Kurt may offer service when you buy his kit. But what happens when you need one more lock washer, or a certain bolt. Well we hope it's available locally, so we don't have to order. But the business we have locally doesn't get enough business and can't keep it's doors open or stock what you need.

Dollar parity is one thing,

now we need equal market share, population to ensure success and a government that is on the same terms as the US tax system.

Right now we exist in a over taxed bubble with one tenth the population.

Let's hope our good vendors stay in the black and keep offering us the parts locally and can continue to sharpen the pencil as their buying power increases with this dollar.

That's about the same thing I tell people when they come in expecting the exact same price as they see it on a US website
sure I need to adjust my prices a bit more but I'm not going to adjust my Canadian website prices every time the USA dollars changes. This is Canada and I'm a Canadian business, my operating costs for doing business are higher then last year.
Why would I charge less for parts
sure the exchange rate is better and margins reflect that when calculating final sell prices
fuel/transit charges are higher
brokerage and duties haven't changed

if you're not paying taxes/duties when goods parts come across the border then you are supposed to self audit yourself and pay those taxes because the tax laws say so(ya, everyones laughing at this comment but it's true)

ask someone in the interior/northern BC what a loaf of bread costs
prices reflect the cost of doing business, population, taxes etc

it's interesting seeing different opinions from people
but it still doesn't change anything
you want cheap prices, move to the USA or shop at Walmart
I've been talking with a lot of local business owners at this is a common problem for everyone not just the Cruiser parts seen.

things work both ways
if or when the US dollar recovers, can every Canadian business raise their prices everytime the US dollar changes? even if the stock was purchased at an old/lower exchange rate?

this is totally off topic but, No,,,, don't just do the wipers
fix the problem inside the knuckle. Replacing the wiper kits only keep your driveway and tires cleaner but it's a bandaid fix

Toynut, you have an added $$ discount for starting an interesting thread and being a long time customer
I have a kit on the shipping table for you

I took a look at Kurt's site
I checked some prices and yes, I'm sure I can adjust a bit more on a few but I did notice that I'm not charging enough for some parts too
plus I can increase my prices on used parts a fair bit and still be equal or better without even factoring in shipping costs/duties etc. not to mention the fact he's out of stock on a bunch of the parts that I have here too

Thanks!
