Currently in the middle of doing a knuckle rebuild on my cruiser and found excessive metal shavings on brake dust shield and inside abs sensor when tearing down. Found my spindles scored so currently have some on order. I found excessive play in both wheels prior to removal from wheel bearing. However after removing my knuckle for axle seal replacement I found some strange scoring near the top race inside the housing. Also appears the top race has some marks if you look closely. Has anybody ever seen something like this before ? Not sure what to do now if I should sand and try to smooth out and install all new parts or do I need to replace the whole front axle? Haven’t even got to the passenger side yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
1995 with 230k miles with no prior maintenance history , judging by axle seal more than likely all original

Did the Birfield look like it had been contacting that spot in picture #1? As for photo #2 did you recently go metal to metal on the brakes? I assume it wasn’t from the prev owner going metal to metal cause metal flake like that oxidizes real quick. As for the spindle that thing has seen better days for sure but any metal from either the hub or swivel ball housing would have likely stayed internal to either area so if you don’t see anything that’s been obviously been rubbing on each other I’d be hard pressed to believe it’s from either system.
