How does one convert a KMZ file created in Google Earth to a GPX file compatible with Garmin Mapsource. Google Earth help suggested a free download program called GPSBabel and there was not a KMZ option in the darned program so I could convert a route to a GPX. I tried using KML, but the program came back with a Code 1 error. Quick search found no help on that.

I've created the same route and waypoints in Mapsource directly, but I wanted to compare the two and see which one was better for following the route.

you can save as kml out of google earth instead of kmz (kmz embeds pictures and compresses iirc)... does that work in gps babel? i have used gpsbabel to go the other-way many times with success...

I use oziexplorer - I can read many formats in and write many formats out.

I'm sure there must be converters on the web - just a matter of finding one that's free and not full of adware junk.

Try and see if it online program does the trick: GPS Visualizer

cheers,
george.

After posting this thread, I did exactly what each of you suggested, but couldn't find one I didn't have to download. I'm so wary of all those!

George - this one was perfect! Thank you!!!

This Works Great

George,
Thank you that website is perfect! I had the same inquiry and that works much better than the downloads I used.

I appreciate the great advice on .KMZ to .GPX conversion.
