Mikki (my daughter) did today and she walked away from what was a pretty serious accident with only bumps and bruises. She is really sore this afternoon, but nothing broken, or any serious injury.
She was driving home this am from work and came up on a curve and hit black ice, she spun around she thinks at least once, went into the ditch backwards. Now when I say ditch it was about a 20 to 25 foot drop off the side of the road. It appears that she slid down the passenger side of the car, rolled once, the tires caught and flipped one more time and landed on the top of the car. She can't recall how long she was there, or how she got out of the car, but she had to walk about 1/2 mile to get help because of no cell service. It shows she tried 911 7 times, she don't remember trying to call, but she did and must of got her head clear enough finally to realize she had no signal. She walked and got help at the nearest house. She said it was really cold, probably 25 degrees with about a 30 mph wind. The unit transported her to the ER where she was treated and released. She has just a scratch on her face, a sore shoulder and hip, otherwise no injuries. I'm very proud to say she was wearing her seatbelt and the the Ford Taurus protected her very well. Amazingly all the doors still open when we went to get her stuff out of it.
This picture doesn't do the site must justice, but the car came to rest just over Mikki's left shoulder in this picture. Took out the barbwire fence to boot.
I'm feel very lucky to still have her with us, this could have been so much worse. Thanks for listening, and don't forget to buckle up, it could be make the difference in a serious accident between walking away, or be taken away in a body bag.
