I have read up on keys in this forum and have learned about master keys, programming etc.
I would like to get an additional master key - the kind with the remote built in. They're expensive from a dealer, but aftermarket shells and used keys for other Toyota models can be bought cheap. So I was wondering - could I buy a new shell off ebay, plus a used key from another Toyota model, switch the transponder/remote transmitter unit from the used key into the new aftermarket shell and use that on the LC?
Obviously I would have to get the blade on the new shell cut and reprogram the transponder and remote transmitter. But the important thing is - are the transponders and remote transmitters the same for all Toyota models? The keys look identical...
Does anyone know if this idea is workable? (I have a 1999 LC.)
