update:

after a week of some heinous roads in death valley - saline valley, others. the mount has yet to budge, i am very pleased with stability even with the big kenwood remote head.

Glad that it held up. That Saline valley road is brutal. Somewhere between 40-60MPH the washboards start to smooth out. Just gotta watch out for the drainages cut across the road!

heh. yeah totally agree on all accounts. those drainage ruts REALLY sneak up at night!

i pulled a couple off with the stem, didn't even damage the windshield. for the first one i took off the stem and then set a flat blade screwdriver on the side of the puck and "coerced" it sideways with a "precision alignment mass". (yes i just hit it with a hammer). that didn't damage the window either, fyi.

I surmised as much and entertained the idea of employing a similar method. Thank you for confirming my assumptions.
