Hmm, if the sand can fall through, wouldn't the sand come back up when stepped on? Like take for example, when the mat is used at the beach?
watch the video, pretty cool stuff. It looks like regular shade screen, I wonder if that would work the same way?

shade screen? please explain.
shade cloth lets the sand (and other stuff) get between yr toesies. personal experience.

yr linky looks like some stuff I got on sale. almost a weatherized/textured multi-layer Tyvek, its quite nice, and doesn't let the sand through. Goatheads can even be shaken out, tho the occasional one hasta be scraped off. mine has weights in the corners, snagged it at the local market.

Since I discovered RV patio mats tho, they've been moved to shade status.

I meant shade cloth. The stuff that is used for green houses is different than the stuff you find at home stores. More like what they show in the video, kind of three dimensional compared to the cheap stuff.

I have the CGear multi-mat but have only used it a couple times. It DOES indeed help keep sand out but not quite like how the video shows it. That must be some fine sand. The material is fairly heavy, which is good because it shouldn't need staking down in light winds. Also, it can be used as a sunshade and won't be noisy like a tarp.

The surface is not so comfortable to sit on without a towel or blanket... (as seen in the pics) but they might've solved that with the multi-rug that has the soft surface.

The material bi-layered so, no, the sand doesn't come back up when you step on it. However, sand/dirt does get caught a little in between the two layers and require some work to shake out.
