I have a Necky Manitou 13 kayak that tracks pretty hard to the left when underway. At first I thought it was me or my paddling, but it's not. I inspected the single rear molded fin (that helps the kayak track) and it appears to be favoring the left side of the kayak. Not sure how it got that way, but it's been that way since I paid good money for it used.

Does anyone have experience heating up a kayak to bend it some or have a better recommendation? As a last resort, I figure I can bolt on a plastic shim on the right side to balance things. I found a dealer today that seems willing to help me get in touch with Necky since they won't email me back, just not sure that much can be done Necky since I have no warranty. Jimmy with Paddle Bound Outfitters seems like a really nice guy and is doing more for me than he has to, so through him some business if you are in DFW. (Sorry if this thread belongs somewhere else... It's Outdoor Gear technically).

Ive havent ever heated up such a large area - Ive plastic welded cracks and holes and such with great results.... For a large defect that was molded in like that, youd likely need to cut out and reweld the area affected. Maybe buy/find some cheap POS kayak/plastic barrel etc.... to practice on. Probably be better to see what the manufacturer can do for you.

Thanks for the input. I definitely don't think cutting it is an option, it is the thick rear molded fin that is most aft and bottom of kayak.

If I don't hear back with anything useful from Necky, I'll try the boiling water & towel method to see if the plastic has any memory to correct itself. I'm not sure if it was actually molded that way (I doubt it) or if it became deformed from damage or something else.
