Just shoved some 33s under my stock 60...and lovin' it!

I just took off the 35" MTR's on my 45LPB, went back to 33x9.5's........damn its SO much nicer. but oddly it harder to turn(no PS) when stoped wiht the 33x9.5's then the 35x12.5's.

My 60 has 33s with 4.11 gearing. It's a nice combo. I did not like 33s with the stock 3.70 gearing, especially at uphill stop lights. Your clutch will wear a bit faster since a longer period of slippage will be necessary before the beast gets rolling.

In the end you will be happier with the right gears, and with enough lift to clear the tires without rubbing.

Maybe its the increased contact pressure with the skinnier tire? I thought about going from my 33X12.50s to a 33X9.50 or 34X10.50 on my rig. But I would like to get up to 35X12.50s. I have heard that sometimes in loose stuff with the skinny tires and the weight of the wagons you end up digging in and dragging the diffs and getting stuck. I see mostly dry stuff so I wouldnt know, but rather not have that happen in deep snow during late hunting season.

might be late to jump on - but i just went on my first long trip in my 60. it's got 33 x 12.5's and stock gearing. my actual speed (via GPS) was on average 9 percent faster than my speedo showed.

I have been running the GPS and have had similar results on the speed differential between stock and these 33s. Overall, they are awesome.

BigSur, I still can't decide when the lift is coming, but I am glad to have 'er a little taller as is.

...........and it all still fits in my garage by about 1/2" or less with the roof rack!

prolly more like a 28 or whatever the new Dunlop is on my mustard 82 fj40, think its a 235/75/15

is a stock tire a 29? or a 27?

I've heard the stock tire is 28.7" or 28.9". When my speed reads 60mph I went online and calculated that is about 68mph in reality (33's, 3:70's, 1:1 4th gear).

I have the stock 3:70's and 33's... recently went camping/4x4ing at 6500ft and from a complete stop going uphill in 2H or 4H the truck had to have the clutch slipped to get going. I did have about 300#'s of gear in it. Once in 4L it crawled awesome and did everything I need it to.

I'm still debating changing out the 3:70's for FJ62 4:10's. I mainly drive it on the freeway 80% of its current duty and get about 13mpg (caculated going 68mph+ on average).

you are most likely about 10% off on your odometer readings and about 15% off on your speedometer readings with the 33's vs. stock diameter. you will be traveling faster/farther than your gauges read.

learned of this when I had a speedo correction gear installed on our '60 with 33x10.5's BFG AT/KO's

Odo and speedo will be off by the exact same amount if calibrated properly. One is driven off of the other ;)

I love the 4.11/33's combo

If you can...DO IT. I love the combo I have right now (4.11/33s). It's still a DD and weekend wheeler. It's great.
