Just picked up a........HJ 47

'84 HJ 47 troopy, it has: Factory a/c, power steering, arb air locker in the rear, discs on the front and original 4 speed. I have a few things to do to it so it's up to standard but it's not too bad.

Here she is.

Draws in the rear and you can see the bench seat that's been added in, seats 2.

And because I can, here's a pic of my current daily driver, 1980 HJ 45, yes, it's a bit muddy here at home.:)

Nice work man - You're building up quite a collection there .......... hoarder :D

Looks like a good rig. Don't know about those hacked front wheel guards though...

What's the plan for it?

Yeah I'm spewing about the front guards, they're otherwise perfect, no rust at all, but the PO hacked them because they scrubbed a bit with the 33 inch muddies, so I'm going to find some replacements. The PO is an engineering student, so I guess that figures.

The plan is to set it up as a touring rig and daily driver, so for the time being a set of split rims that I have lying about are being called into service. The suspension is really well set up so I don't really want to throw a heap of money away on lifted springs that could be super harsh. A H55 gearbox will also find its way in there too, but not quite yet.

At present I'm getting it tidied up for a roadworthy, have pretty much done the rear wheel bearings, just need 2 new screws for the wheel bearing locknut - had to destroy the old ones to get them off, how do people tighten phillips head screws so tight?:bang:

Also a couple of small patches of rust in the floorpans to cut out and weld in new steel, thankfully not much, unlike the BJ 42, replace the motor mounts and tidy up the steering. Then there's other stuff like fixing the Edic system, leaking a/c and cleaning up the electricals in general. Hopefully I'll have the whole show on the road in a couple of weeks.

Here's the engine bay, fair bit of stuff to tidy up, replace poorly run/terminated wiring, install conduits and remove clutter, but, the old 2H runs pretty sweet, so that's the main thing.

Here she is now, just waiting for the mechanic to get back to me so I can get the roadworthy check done.

This thing might even be better than I first thought, I think it may have 3.7:1 diffs in it, certainly behaves differently to the other 'Cruisers I've had with 4.11 diffs.:D It's also made me realise how tired and slow the H engine in my HJ 45 is.

I was wrong, it does have 4.11:1 diff centres in it, got a bit excited there for a bit. I have a H55F with split case on the way that is from an '84 FJ 40, so no transmission hump mods to be done. Once it's on the road I'll also get the engine checked out and see if it's still in good enough shape to turbocharge.
