These things are awesome! Now I know why so many like them, and I haven't even slept in it yet!
I had just finished the couple hours job of mounting it to a new Front Runner rack with the FR mounts, and then brought the bedding up. While up there /I plopped my head on the pillow to try out the mattress and didn't want to get up LOL. I just laid there for the better part of an hour watching people out for an evening stroll pass by and cars going down the block on a warm summer night, with a nice cooling breeze coming through the windows that wasn't evident when on the ground.

I'm going to do the first overnighter this weekend and I'll post observations after.

Here's a few pics

I like the FR mounts, especially the tall versions. Easy to get a wrench under and they create an extra inch or so of space under the tent for stuff. So far I have a folding table under there and may eventually do some PVC pipe water storage.

I mounted the tent by myself by taking the mattress out, flipping the tent up onto the tailgate and then pushing it straight up! I only needed help in getting the mattress back into the tent once mounted. LOL

All told the tent and the rack have turned out to be all I had hoped.

Looks great!

Thank you.

Well I spent my first night in a RTT, or any tent since I was in high school, and I had a great time! This was luxury compared to when I was a kid and backpacked for five days at a time on the Appalachian trail with nothing but sleeping bags and a small tarp in case of rain. It rained a lot. LOL

This thing though was awesome! Plenty of room for sitting up and later sprawling out while watching TV on a Galaxy Mega. The mattress could use a 2" topper but was perfectly adequate. I slept quite well. Setup and breakdown was fairly easy for a first time. I'm sure it'll get easier with experience and when those darn awning wires slide easier into the holes.

I was very leery of the whole sleep on the roof thing and just the idea of over-nighting in a tent instead of a Marriot... but the comfort, size, and well thought out and made aspect made spending the night on the beach and being there to fish first thing the next morning made me a believer. I can't wait till next weekend!

Where in NY do you live and what beach is that? I grew up on Long Island and use to run on some of the beaches. Your cruiser looks great.

Nice setup. Enjoy.

I'm on the island also, south shore. That section of water is Fire Island inlet and the beach is called the sore thumb. Just before Captree, and those big boats you see are the Captree Fishing Fleet full of weekend fishermen raking all the Fluke off the bottom. There were six party boats in the inlet that morning. But I was so happy to wake up on the beach in total comfort with my ARB RTT that I didn't mind. I put a line out and began making a nice scrambled eggs and toast breakfast. :)

Thank you Helipilot.

Where did you live when you were here?

Know the area. Grew up in Lynbrook so long beach, pt lookout, nassau and lido beach were my hangout. Would hit jones beach occasionally and the infamous OBI for a night of cocktails.. I go back about once a year to visit the sister and friends.

What town you live in? For some reason I thought it was the south shore based on a few of the pictures you posted especially the one with all the power lines....lol

Power lines, yeah, LOL

I'm in Massapequa Park. So anything from LB out to Shinnecock is pretty easy to reach.

I used to hang out in long beach as a kid in the 70's and early 80's - Dirty Dick's, the Beach House, and countless other bars were great to cruise. There was always something crazy going on. lol Thank god that's over. :D

My best friend lives in Massapea Park. He retired as a Nassau County detective 2 yrs ago. Oh the Beach House...I remember that place. Agree with you on Thank god its over..lol...Keep us posted on the RTT. I like the one you have. Will be on the island in September to visit my sister and friends.

Yes I do. I just put an air mattress in it this summer and an inflatable back rest so either laying down or sitting up is mucho comfy.

Im sitting under the awning I also.installed, on the beach as I type, and its 82 degrees in September! Slept here last night and I'm loving it

Are you thinking of getting a RTT?
