The 44 Magnum weighted shift knob just came in the mail. This thing is really sweet. I got the satin finish with black bolts and it is beautiful. Haven't installed it yet, but i'm sure it will aid in shifting by acting as a counterweight.... this thing weighs 585 grams! Here is a link

Holey moley!!! $115 for a shift knob!!!!! I didn't know a FJ was that hard to shift!! Let me know if it helps. I might need one for my FJ55, the old 4 speed is a tad notchy it might also help with my speed downshifts while ascending a incline.....lol

The FJ shifts really easy. Neat knob, but I'll bet it's cold as hell in the winter time!
 
I don't have any problems shifting... in fact the URD short throw kit makes it even smoother, but it definitely won't hurt anything. I really just love the look and feel of this knob. Yes it will be cold, but that is a compromise I'm willing to make (plus i can always just throw on my TRD leather ball knob if its too cold). I wanted to find the knobs they are using in the new trail teams FJ, but I couldn't find them and I like this one even better. I talked to someone at TWM and they said they will be coming out with a matching 4hi/lo knob. I know the price is pretty shocking, but trust me, you have to see and feel this knob to appreciate its outstanding quality. $115 is the sale price too! Normally $125 (or you can go bling crazy and get it with 24K gold plate for $250 LOL! I think that is for the bling crazy hummer guys:flipoff2:). It has a nice spacer that allows you to fine tune how hi or low you want it to sit on the stick. There is about an inch difference between the lowest and highest setting. Anyhow, I'll let you guys know how it performs once I get my truck back from the shop. They are doing the Snorkel install and redoing the powdercoat on my Front bumper due to damage sustained in an accident.
 
Knobs like that tend to be great at making up for bad synchros, unfortunately they significantly increase the likelihood that you'll hurt your tranny more.
Edit: I'm not saying you'll be smashing your synchros or bending your shift forks, just that that is exactly what does tend to happen when people put on a heavy knob to compensate for shifting difficulties.
 
Thanks for the info/warning about the possibility of damage due to the heavy shift knob. I put it on and it looks and feels awesome. I actually think there will be less stress on the components because less force is required to throw the shifter. It almost shifts on it's own; just give it a push and it slides right into gear. Now I can see how you could damage things if you are rough and make very hard shift throws, but I'm pretty careful. Well, I will be sure to let you know if any problems result from this mod.
 
Not sure what you mean by "is it lit", but there are no lights on the knob. The bolts are just for looks and come in a number of colors. I'm really not too worried about this knob causing any damage. The weight of the knob is the whole point. I don't slam the stick into gear to begin with. I use as little force possible to smoothly shift. The purpose of the knob is to reduce the amount of energy that I have to put into shifting by using the inertia of the knob to do some of the work, not to increase the amount of force exerted on the shifting/tranny components. As I've said, everything is speculation at this point because I won't be able to drive it until it comes back from the shop. I'll let you all know how it goes.

I like it and pretty sure it will not effect the transmission by and means, just a little colder and not soft to the touch.
