I just had to share this with youse guys...

I got a call this week from a friend of mine about going for a spin in his new toy. He had always talked about buying a jet (he and I have built several R/C jets over the years) but I didn't think he'd do it. Anyway, we took it for a spin for about 30 minutes. Did some aerobatics and got cleared to "buzz the tower" at 250 mph. This is the most fun I have had with my clothes on in my life. The best part is that he is going to keep it about 5 minutes from my house.

You can pick these L-29's up for between $40k-$70k- cheap in aircraft terms. The killer is fuel- something like 200 gph cruise. This plane will run on Jet-A, kerosene, diesel, and cooking oil, I think. All the Soviet-era planes were designed like that. Bodean probably knows all about it.

I have to say that burning jet fuel is pretty friggin' awesome. Definitely has my fun-o-meter pegged. Seeing everyone run out of this building after we buzzed it was great. He promised me we would take it to a couple games next season. That's probably the one time I won't drink during a game. Just looking at the thing upsets my stomach.

There are several importers. He bought a Mig, too, to restore next. The L-29 was built as a trainer for the Mig. Some were actually equipped for combat. This one wasn't.

You are obviously hanging out with different people than Jes was! I know where about 600,000 gallons of go juice is. The problem is getting it. I can start saving cooking oil though. Cool ride! We were at Elmendorf AFB recently and there was a retired AF Col. that owned an F-86. He was contracted to pull drones for the base (F-15 jocks). How cool would that be? All of the maint. was performed by the AF as well as the fuel bill!
