Jerry cans in spare tire space?

Thinking out loud here, what it you made some type of access from above, and then had your brackets underneath, so you don't have to try and hold them upside down to load, you could simply set them in from above.
 
Well, I don't know about everybody else reading this thread, but I've decided the cans under the back is a bad idea. At first this sounded like a simple solution, but too many potential headaches for what it's worth.

Best options still seem to be OEM subtank, jerry cans on a rear bumper/carrier, or maybe 2.5 gal Wedco cans on a roof rack. The roof rack deal is probably the cheapest/easiest option for me. I could carry as many (or as few) 2.5 gal cans up top as I need, still be able to mount them upright without them being too tall, and still be able to manhandle them without busting a gut.
