JDM Hilux Surf 2L-T - what's the story?

Get a 1KZTE powered (post mid 1993) one if you can, however the 2LT is not as bad as it's painted. A well sorted one has lenty of torque for wheeling and is easily tuneable (Bigger exhaust, Intercooler etc).

The Head cracking doesn't always happen, and as long as you get a good price and put some money away for it going just in case, then you have yourself a good motor.

The 2L series engine is one of the most common engines on the planet (not quite in Small Block Chevy land but close). It has been made since the 70s, is built really solid apart from the occasional head problems and is generally good for 300K or more.
