I just finished chatting with Rockrete (Mike) over on IVOAC and we think it is time for another gathering of the IVOAC members in the Greater Vancouver area. Yep, we know it is a Friday night. But both Mike and I are married with kids and this is the only night where we can both sneak away for a "meeting". If you are not from the Vancouver area but would like to attend, you are all welcome! The tentative location is the Boston Pizza on the Lougheed in Coquitlam: 1035 Lougheed Hwy.

Our planned start time is 7:30 PM. It will include an update on legal, political and media activities and plans. The meeting should run about and hour but you are free to stay as long as you want to check out the rides and swap the usual BS stories. Please PM me if you are planning to attend. Thanks.

Bump.

It is on tomorrow night. Who else has nothing better to do on a Friday night and is coming?

Actually, it should be interesting. Looks like the class action is moving ahead, as Wayne noted in one of his posts in the diesel section. :) So too is the analysis of the ICBC data. Another front is seeming to develop with the imports of vehicles from the US - part of our mandate. Vehicles being imported need a letter from the manufacturer outlining the recalls and that the recall work has been done. Apparently some people have had the experience of the manufacturer refusing to give this letter which is required to import and register the vehicle. Suprise, Toyota has been named as one of the guilty ones. Anyways, come along and you will find out more tomorrow. Sorry, IVOAC runs on a shoe string budget so you will just have to imagine the red head dancers which Bill is always promising for our meetings. :grinpimp: Cheers, John

Re the US recall letters: apparently Honda and Toyota refuse to issue these letters. You might get lucky if you know a local dealer, perhaps (RIV say they require the letter from head office, but actually they are pretty flexible on this). Ford HQ will issue one for free, but only for a "used" vehicle (ie. >15,000 km and one year old). Otherwise it's $100 from your local dealership. Ford fully honour their US warranties in Canada (Toyota and Honda don't). GM will give you a recall letter for free, but won't honor the full US warranty. Mercedes will issue a recall letter, but will charge $500 for it.

So basically the companies are all over the map on the recall thing, but the common denomenator is that the Japanese co's will screw you, while Ford is the most easy-going. Shame on Toyota and Honda.

Thanks for that clarification. I wasn't sure what the big three were doing but I knew that Toyota was being a *&$#@^%$ about it. It really makes me  not only because they are now using law meant to protect the consumer to protect their fat market and well I am hoping to import a 60 or 80 from the US in a year or so. Just one more battle to fight. Some how I think we will have a lot more public support on this one.
