Finally got tired of limping around on this bum knee and decided to see Doc about it....MRI results = torn medial meniscus (cartilage). Got to see another Dr. in Little Rock in about two weeks to see if surgery is the only way. Anybody else go through this? I'm a little worried about how long the recovery might be. I'd like to be somewhat healthy by the SCC ride in October.;)

If they scope it then it will be just a few holes (small) that they put the scope in. I had an ACL and a partial menisectomy (sp?) where they actially replaced my ACL with part of my patella tendon and cut part of my meniscus out. Pretty long recovery for me. That was in 02. In 09 therapy is really agressive and recovery times seem a lot shorter. Heck my physical therapist had his knee scoped on Friday and he was at work on Monday!

It really just depends on how much they have to do in there. If all they have to do is go in and clean up some of the cartilage then you should be fine in a few weeks. Let them do it but make sure they do the right one! Good luck!

Later,

I'm not sure there is a wrong one... the other isn't much better. I have not seen the MRI report myself but I believe that it is only the meniscus and, therefore, a fairly simple repair. I'm thinkin' a few days on crutches and a few weeks of physical therapy. I'm gonna try and drop about 50# and that should help also. Wish me luck!

Comfortable chair ... bottle of booze and of Sam's Diet Cola ... cooler with some clean ice. :hhmm:

What am I missin' here? ... why you need healthy knees?? :grinpimp:

They'll fix ya right up though I'm sure.

Just remember ... "minor surgery" is any surgery done to some other Fella.

Ya might be on to something there.... Thanks Brotha'

I severally strained (very slight tear) mine about 2 years ago and I had a brace for about 8 weeks and then got off of it. It bothered me for a few months after and I have not played golf since. The nice part is that the MCL can repair itself and the ACL can't.

You could just be in the brace for a few weeks/ months and be ok.

Speakin' of movin' slow ...

How'd ya make out sir? :hhmm:

:flamingo:

Slice and dice scheduled for the 25th. The Cruiser Crawl will fall two weeks into the scheduled 4 week recovery period. I may need some xtra ice ( either for my knee or for my drink - either will prolly work)

I'll pack an extra cooler in the rental car. :grinpimp:

:flamingo:

Could that rental car be an FJ Cruiser?

I sure like to see your driving skills on that one!
... No big motor, no Atlas low range, no big ass tires and keep up w/ the big dogs!

how do you like them apples?

Daryl, no worries about the ice, I can go get for you sir!

Knees suck.

Meniscus repair is not usually a big deal and recovery is short.

More importantly, which knee? Gas pedal or clutch pedal?

Gas pedal knee -- two weeks is no problem. Clutch pedal knee -- two weeks is iffy. You'll aggravate it again with lots of shifting if the tear was significant.

Recovery from that operation is all about eliminating the joint inflammation from the injury and the surgery. Ice, ice and more ice plus anti-inflammatory meds and elevation. Then ice it more.

Best of luck!

Unfortunately clutch knee. Reckon I'll just shift a couple more levers and go slow enough that I wont have to push it in too often:D You folks might get tired of waiting for me though...
