Hey,

i picked up this hitch with an engine/tranny/tcase. I thought it would work on the pig. Looks like it'll bolt up with some drilling. Do you guys think it'll hold up to trailering? It's 3/8" all around and is pretty stout. Thanks,

I would say that entirely depends on what you intend to pull. And what engine you have in your pig. But for most things I would think that would be sufficient.

Most light small things that is....

Thanks guys,

I got out the caliper and measured it. It's 1/2" plate with 3/8' sides. I figured I'd put four 5/8" bolts through it and call it good. It looks trash, but it'll clean up nicely. I thought it would handle anything I could pull with a 2F. With the bumper I made, I would've thought it'd handle a lot. What are the concerns? Attachment to bumper? Bumper? The bumper I made for the pig has 8 - 5/8" bolts through the back and frame cross member with 2 on each side to the frame. Here's a link to the build up:

I'm just trying to figure out what more it'd need. Thanks for all the input!

The concern here is what you are attaching it to. Most stock bumpers will not carry much of a load (I'd think). Your bumper is much more stout-

Personally- not sure I'd tow anything more than a light pop up any real distance with that set up.

Would welding a piece of 1/4 angle to the other side for under bumper attachment help out? that'd be pretty easy to do. I'm kinda confused as I would've thought sticking 4 5/8" bolts through it would make it stout enough for pretty much anything I could tow with a stock 2F.

I would think it could tow anything a mini van could tow and even do better than the bumper hitch set up I have on my mid 80's pickup. I've looked at the set ups the county DOT uses on the bigger trucks and it looks pretty similar with a few more bolts-- not that I plan to tow anything like that. Wouldn't the current setup I'm thinking about handle a 3/4 ton load? I think a 4 x 8 trailer full of gravel would max out a 2F for short distances. Thanks again for all the insight.
