Is my tent toast

So will I since I never plan to throw my tents in a washer! :D

I agree that Eureka tents kick a$$. If you want a good deal go to the Eureka website and then go to the factory seconds section. They have a bunch of tents listed there but if you call the 800 number they have almost all the tents that Eureka offers that are seconds, they are all repaired or correctly packaged. Usually they are rated as a second because there was a stiching oppps that was fixed or there was something missing from the box. I bought a new eureka Apex 3xta and it ROCKS. I have never found anything wrong with it nor can i tell why it was labeled a second. All of the seconds they sell are completly usable and will only have "Cosmetic" flaws. Like I care, you are out in the woods.

Just head to Sport Chalet - tents on sale now and let this poor thread die an unnatural death. hehehe

One Tent i have had for a long time is a Vaude. they are
made in Germany and they are tough as nails. Its a 4 Season
tent with a built in rain fly and two built in vestibules at both
ends.

>I'm also gonna contact L.L. Bean, but don't have much hope that they'll refund >the purchase price of a 20 year old tent.

If you haven't done this, do. LL Bean is serious about backing their stuff up. A friend in college had a backpack from when he was in grade school that was thrashed, and they let him trade it for a new one, straight up.

sup man,

my suggestions would be to look into an msr (used to be walrus), they have a nice non-free standin tent lineup called the 'zoid'. great tent, awesome price. have done many nights in a zoid 1.5 with my backpackin bud.

also look at sierra designs. pretty much the same prices as the msr stuff, but with a bit more varied tent selection. their quality is outstanding and they revolutionized the non-freestanding (hoop tent) industry. companies such as msr are just now catching up.

if you're not interested in the hoop tents, still check out s.d., they have many more tents for all different types of campers.

i wouldn't get anything from REI for a different reason that most on here. it's too dern expensive! ha ha
most outfitters like that are sellin to a market that doesn't care about price (they do have great quality for the most part however)

i would also highly suggest the sierra trading post. bought lots and lots of stuff from them over the past several years to feed my backpackin addiction. gotta love gettin really nice stuff at almost half off

also, google for an outdoor equipment exchange website. i have had good results from them also (i'll try and hunt down a link for ya)

good luck with it, and let us know what you end up gettin,

(never done business with 'the trailhead' before)

(that's the champ tent right there)

also, make sure you ask what model year you're gettin for a tent. i know it sounds stupid, but it would be easy for a store to dupe you into buyin last year's tent at full price rather than closeout.

Thanks to all for your input. I ended up tossing the tent in the trash. I bought a new one on sale at REI :-X I don't really need a super-duper 4 season tent. Just a casual tent for camping in Texas. I paid about $150 for a 2-man job that's got lots of mesh down low to catch some breezes on hot nights. Around here that's between June and October.

nicely done man. sounds like a good price too
