For the last couple of months i've had issues starting my LC. Sometimes it takes turning the key over 15 times before she starts, but other times is cranks straight up. It seems to do it more when it sits for awhile....

I've checked the battery and it is fine - Starter??

it is like when you dont have the correct key fob (sp) and you turn the key and it just clicks and not cranks....

If it is the Starter, is it hard to change, is it something that should be done by Toyota, does my key fob (sp) have to be programed to the new starter, how much is this going to cost????

    thanks

Thoroughly clean battery posts, terminal ends, ground point at block/head, ground point for starter ground.

Sounds like the starter. Pleanty of info on this site re starter problems. You can do it yourself, but it is a lot of work, good 3-4 hr job, lots to remove just to get to it. Your key does not have to be reprogramed. I had mine done for $500 as I recall.

The electrical contacts are inside the starter. You can change the starter for ~$300 or just change the contacts and plunger for ~$30 (and labor of course). View this thread and you can decide whether you want to do it yourself or have a mechanic do the work. Yes, it sounds like a pain but doing it every 70-100k isn't too, too bad. Though I'm sure some have gone much further w/o needing to replace them.

If it's your first time w/ the starter, it might be a good idea to buy a replacement starter. This way, after all the work of putting it back together, you can be confident it will start. Last thing you want is to find out you incorrectly installed the contacts and find it doesn't work, meaning you'd have to remove the intake manifold again. Then when you're about to hit 200K mi, you can rebuild your original starter at your leisure, thoroughly test it, and use it next time. If you're lucky, your contacts will fail before 100K mi and you'll have a platinum 100K mi warranty, so the dealer can do the work.

Does anyone know of the Tundra/Sequoia have the same starter contact replacement interval? I wonder if it's solely a current draw issue that decides on the early/late demise of a starter?
