Good morning all - new member here. After years of waiting, I finally have joined the GX470 family. I absolutely love my 2004, though I am in the process of going through everything to start my maintenance baseline. The car-fax is pretty informative, but the last 5 years it didn't drive very much and no service records. Anyway, I'm enjoying the posts here and can't wait to glean some wisdom from seasoned owners. Here's to the adventure!

What’s your mileage and you need to post what has been done at what mileage to get conversation going. And what’s your build goal?

I can tell you that in almost 9 years of ownership of my 2003, I’ve spent more than 3x the purchase price on maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to able to run 4x4 rock crawling trails rated up to 7 out of 10 (in Utah and SoCal).

But of course, you don’t need to go that extreme if you post what your intentions are with your 2004 GX470.

Okay so the vitals are these:
  • 112k miles
  • Timing belt done @ 93k in 2017
  • Air suspension still works, no butt sag. However, ride is a little bouncy. Perhaps after 21 years the struts need replacing?
  • Interior in good shape and has jump seats
  • Amp - not working. Diagnostic screen says it's not cont connected, but it is and fuses are good. I'm using a portable blue tooth for tunes until I figure out what to do. Not looking to do a full rewiring for new system if I can avoid it.
  • Undercarriage has an undercoating and it's in good shape/
Goals
  • Perhaps a better bumper - I live in the woods, off dirt roads and the deer are insane. I'd like something that isn't too over the top, but also fitting. I want something that says "Yes Lexus should've done that."
  • I'm not an off road enthusiast, but I sure love following the conversations.
  • It's my daily driver right now so I need it to last and perform as best it can.
  • I'm open to other after market accoutrements, but again, it's got to make sense.
  • Practical, but cool, or better put - it's cool because it's practical.

So, like a hunting rig!

1. ARB or Ironman or Goliath Offroad Front Bumper with loops

2. 2” leveling lift to lift the front 2” and the rear like 1”. Some company in Australia sells longer airbags for rear to let you keep air bags and you can do the airbag washer trick to lift it 1.5” to level rear with the front.

3. Maybe 255/80R17 (skinny 33s) tires to go with the leveling lift.

Other than that…do all the maintenance.

Well not exactly a hunting rig, but I'd like a bumper that can take a hit when those idiots jump out and get clobbered. A kangaroo bumper is too much though.

What do you have on yours? Assuming your avatar is your rig. I really like how that turned out...and the grill.

I have a hybrid tube bumper from Restless Offroad in SoCal and I really like it. I picked it up in person and installed myself. www.restlessoffroad.com

Lil B in Colorado is another popular option that I was considering, but it required shipping fees. www.lilbscustomfab.com

There’s other hybrid tube bumpers, but these two were my favorite designs.
