Landcruiserjunky, it's not a real, real South American. These guys originally come from Indonesia. Here they are famous for this kind of work. When I showed him my rusted cruiser, I expected a long face and a high price, but he said 'No problem' and asked a price for which they only do one door in Holland (Okay, Holland is terribly expensive!). Yes, having a car here in Suriname is affordable.

Oh, by the way, the car had 357,000 km on the odometer when we bought it. Unbelievable strong engine, the 2H. Okay, quite slow, but nobody's is doing anything fast in this country:)

Okay, another one. In Venezuela. Love that country so far. In the south, in the border town of Santa Elena, it's Land Cruiser country. 40's, 60's (total build-up), many 70's for the treks through the mountains (Roraima), 80's. And the diesel is less than one US dollarcent per liter. The gasoline is 1.5 dollarcent per liter, so approx 6 dollarcent per gallon! Nice or nice?
