Fellow Mud Members,

I would like to introduce myself to Ih8mud.com as this is my first post. I joined this community because I am eventually going to purchase a FJ80. I say eventually because I want to be financially ready before making this commitment. I currently own a 96 T100 4x4 extended cab with 210k miles; my father-in-law drives it daily in GA as I am 6 months deep into a deployment to Afghanistan. I am stationed in Fort Drum NY, but only spent about 6 months there before deploying. My goal when I get back is to get stationed in Fort Bragg, NC and settle down and start a family.

As far as I have seen this forum is the best place to learn and share with others knowledge on LC’s. The people seem friendly and helpful to a noob of FJs. I will spend the majority of my time reading and learning as I have little knowledge or experience to share related to FJs. I do however have some experience with my T100, my 07 Civic SI and a 07 Kawasaki Ultra 250x, if anyone needs advice.

From one branch of the service to another. Just make sure you get your arse home safe. Take care and since you have the time to wait it sounds like, keep a good eye out in the for sale section.

Welcome, and keep your head down! 4 1/2 years at Bragg, 2-325 AIR and 1-17 Cav, best job in the army!

TX- Lone Star Land Cruisers - Austin Chapter - Some great guys, my buddy bought his LX from Texas, they've got some clean rigs down that way.

I was in the same boat as you, passed my time over there compiling build sheets and searching the classifieds religiously. Picked my cruiser up within 3 weeks of getting back, there isn't a better feeling!

Stay safe, man.

Welcome. I actually purchase my first LC during mid tour leave on my last deployment from fellow MUD member, Dixie Cragger. I've never been happier and more regret free about a decision in my entire life. My advice would be to take your time, as you have plenty right now, and do your research. You have definitely come to the right forum. Get home safe and get yourself a LC and enjoy it.

welcome aboard :flipoff2:

You have no idea...............Oh, I mean welcome:flipoff2:
Good luck with your search. Take your time and find the right one, when you do, move fast.

Welcome to the addiction! :flipoff2:

Indeed welcome (and you really want an FZJ80, not an FJ80)

I'll second this, as I have owned both. I prefer the FZJ80 (1993 - 1997), but my old '91 ('91 and '92 are identical) was a beast off road.

is because fj80,91-92 only have cdl? I hear you.
My Dad purchased one for parting out, while I was training. Sent me pictures and I knew I needed it, he told me there might be a transmission problem. I finished training saw it for the first time, fell in love. Then took it to a mechanic and behold, it just needed a new throttle cable.

I've done the same thing with getting mine mid tour. Spent a lot of time looking and finally found one that I should be happy with. If you haven't used the craigslist search tool in the classified section, it can save you some time. Stay patient and you'll find the right one. I can't wait to get home to drive mine for the first time.
