1999 LX470, 260k miles. I have an intermittent braking issue that seems to be getting a little more frequent.
Every once in a while when I press the brake pedal, I hear a quick “dun-dun-dun” type sound and it feels like I lose braking for a second. Then the brakes immediately go back to normal. I don’t remember feeling any pulsing or feedback through the pedal when it happens, and the pedal doesn’t sink to the floor.
It’s still very infrequent. It used to happen maybe once a month, and now I might notice it once every few days. So far I’ve only experienced it at slow speeds coming to a stop on normal/dry roads.
No ABS, brake, or other warning lights come on when it happens.
Truck has 260k miles. The previous owner replaced the brake booster/master cylinder assembly within the last 5 years, and there hasn’t been significant mileage put on the truck since that replacement.
No recent wheel bearing, hub, CV, brake, or wheel speed sensor work. It gets normal oil changes/inspections at a reputable shop and they’ve always said the brakes look normal.
I attached a video. On the second brake application you can hear the noise I’m talking about.
Anyone experienced something similar or have an idea where I should start looking?
