Coils and spacers...for a total lift of how many inches?

Thanks FJ Cruiser #8 and jeffxlh :)

I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. A 3" lift and 33" or 35" tires alone make a big difference in the look of the FJ. No more slideing off of every rock with the bottom of the truck. This forum only lets me post so many pic's. Also not very good with computers.

how many guys are gonna go with the 285/70/17 over the 33x1250.a7??

285/70-17 Goodyear MT/R are in my garage waiting to be installed. :)

what size lift are you going with?

I have the following OME parts on order. Should give me about 2" of lift.

Front: 886 Heavy Spring (I already have an ARB Bull Bar + WARN winch installed) with N140S struts
Rear: 895 Springs with N141 Shocks

I've heard rumor that the lift kits should be arriving around the 9th of June.

285 is a 32.7 or .9" tire. So about the same as the 33x12.50x17. I have Goodyear MT/R's 285/70/17 on my FJ (don't like them). I think a 33" is the best fit for the FJ. When your at full articulation and the tire is stuffed in the fender wells there is no rubbing issues. With my OME lift (which sits higher than the Revtec) I think a 35" tire would look better. It might also ride smoother because of the taller side wall. But then you might have rubbing issues. There wasn't much room left with the 285/70/17. As a side note. I chopped the front body mounts so my 285 with only half of its tread left wouldn't rub.

Was this before or after the lift was installed?

I'm going to assume that trimming is not necessary with a lift installed. Correct?

Lift or no lift you have to trim the body mount. After the lift was installed it didn't look like there was going to be any rubbing issues.
When driving, as soon as the axle flexed and the wheel was turned it hit. The day before I drove to Cruise Moab I trimmed them with a sawzall in my drive way.

Question

I am going to lift my truck, OME is my preference based on all I have read, recommendations, etc.

I currently have 265/75/16 tires with the Toyota TRD wheels. I don't want to just scrap the tires since they are basically new.

So the question is, how will the tires work with the lift and how stupid will the tires look? Or am I gonna have to bite the bullet and buy new tires now?

Yes, it might look a bit goofy.
The tires will look small but certainly there is something to be said for getting your money's worth out of the stock tread if the looks don't bother you.

Yep, goofy. You have two choices, sell the tires while they are in good shape to help off-set the cost of new shoes or run them till they wear out...then replace. I sold my tires and wheels within a week of picking up the FJ, put on ARacing with 285 BFG A/T's. No regrets.

Good to know. I think I am going to just bite the bullet. I really like my wheels though, so I think I'll just get my baby some new shoes and keep the feet.

Suggestions on tires after the lift? I am thinking BFG AT 285s?

The bfg 285/70 is a great choice for all around application. I've put 'em on my FJ and the have done great through 2600 miles of asphault, dirt, sand, rocks, runnning creeks, etc. (sorry hard to find mud in the summer in phoenix). I've also used them on my last 2 street driven 4WD's and get good tire life (40K and I can give to a friend). 3rd reason is they're on the model too;)

other suspension options....

West Coast Cruisers will shortly be offering FJ Cruiser suspension kits. The kits will include new front shocks and springs, as well as rear shocks and springs.

We are currently testing several different spring shock combinations so more data on lift hight and extra load capacity will be available once testing is complete.

West Coast Cruisers is the North American Distibutor and dealer for Dobinsons suspensions.

So if you were worried that there was only going to be one or two companies offering a quality suspention lift here is another one to consider.

Cheers,

Michael
