Hi All,

I am going through the process of figuring out why my instrument cluster is rather flaky. The gas gauge doesn't work (below empty for main tank and over the top for sub tank), recently voltage stopped working, and I've never had oil pressure (almost always off the top high even when car is off).

Fuel is the most important to me and I always assumed sender or the instrument cluster itself. After some debugging I'm starting to think maybe not.

Measuring across pins 1 and 6 at the BB1 connector under the driver's door, on the tank side I got 100 ish Ohms, not an open circuit like I would have thought for bad sender.

I stuck a pin in the C15 connector for pins 2 and 6 and these were open though. I checked, and sure enough no continuity between BB1 pin 6 and C15 pin 2 or BB1 pin 1 and C15 pin 6.

This makes me think some issue at the junction block instead? One interesting thing is that my low fuel light works though. On the wiring diagram it says left kick panel is where the junction block is which lines up with a sunroof leak I had, maybe related? I opened it up and there are so many wires in there I'm not sure where to even start. What am I looking for?

1999 VXR with a sub tank

Thanks!

there are known issues with instrument clusters, typically in later years ( seems to be most common in 04-05 )
typically it's the stepper motors that fail
That's what I was at first leaning towards, but seems odd to me it is empty for the main but over the top full for the sub. Makes me think maybe not as its clearly able to move. Also that fact there is no resistance on those pins seems odd?
