Hi all,

I am new to this forum and new to 100 series ownership, 2007 HDJ100, 100k miles. I've spent weeks reading through posts trying to find the answer to my problems but to no avail!

Firstly, the car was leaking into the LHS footwell and, after cleaning the sunroof drains, this is now seemingly fixed. However, I'm not sure if the water ingress could be the cause of the problems.

First issue is an intermittent battery drain. The 1HD-FTE comes with 2 batteries from factory as I'm sure you're aware. From a full charge, they can be completely drained to the point of the door lock actuators not working in the space of 3 days. To me, that draw seems absolutely enormous. After measuring each fuse in the foot wells and under the bonnet as well as testing the draw directly from the battery, I haven't recorded a total pull greater than 11mA. On the occasion of completely dead batteries, the night before, the nav screen would not go off even with the doors locked. I manually turned off the display but that didn't work. This problem repeated itself but with the dials not going off when the door was locked and the ignition off. On this occasion, the speedo etc did not initially work until I cycled the ignition a few times and then it wouldn't go off.

Secondly, after testing the parasitic drain with the ignition in the acc position, the indicator/hazard fuse blew and the ABS and parking brake lights flickered on and off before the ABS one is now solidly on. I don't know if this is electrical or not however, the booster comes on for no more than 30 seconds when started and everything seems functional. I would assume it's electrical given that the car was driven to a shed for some protection from the rain whilst clearing the sunroof drains and testing fuses without the ABS light on and, without moving a wheel, the ABS light came on.

Finally, again, I'm not sure if this is electrical or not. There is an extremely loud, seemingly too loud to be a relay, clicking noise intermittently in the dash behind the head unit near the windscreen. This noise randomly started on the same day as the ABS light. It occurs if the aircon is on or off, fan is on or off and the recirculation is on or off.

Sorry for the long post. Any input is appreciated. I was thinking of changing the ACC relay first.

Kind regards,
Josh.

do you have any aftermarket electrical stuff, including audio equipment ?
Hi, no audio equipment. There's aftermarket trailer lights and an additional glass mount aerial. That's it. One further development from today is the windscreen/windshield wipers stay on with the ignition off and the car locked.

Unfortunately, failing being extremely lucky and pulling the joining conenctors apart and finding them corroded, which you can resolve by cleaning them, you're going to have to open the service manual and start sleuthing. This isn't the solution to your parasitic draw, however.

The only way to find that is to start at the batteries and work your way to the rear, until you find it. I'd try disconnecting one battery, and then the other and see if you can isolate the draw that way.

Just remember, you have a CANbus electrical system and they can be very finicky. There are dedicated troubleshooting procedures specific to CANbus.

Thank you both. Looking through the wiring diagram, it seems likely to be an ignition relay or accessory relays. They appear to link all of my observed issues and could well be supplying constant power if one was stuck- at least I think so

Good luck

Lots of wires, fuses, ABS controller, etc in the drivers footwell. If you had a water leak in that area that’s where I would start.

Great. Thank you. I'm going to take the whole panel out today.

You could have bridging inside a plug from water. Not a bad plan to separate all plugs in the area, spray with contact cleaner, and plug back together. Dielectric grease is optional, but not required.
