I have a 1983 FJ60 with what I think is the original Aisan carb. It's a tough critter to get started most mornings and either doesn't seem to prime or floods. I would really like to start fresh with a rebuild carb.

I do see a number of fj60 carbs on ebay, but they don't all look the same. I would hate to choose ... poorly. So I'm looking for advice on getting a replacement.

Here's what I have now:

Rebuild what you have, search for Pin_heads videos, check the FAQs at the top of the forum page.
If you can desmog in Colorado, consider a Trollhole carb, (vendor on this site).

I think I'm good to go here in Elpaso county.

I am actually an aircooled VW guy ... and yet terrible with carburetors. In fact I converted my 1968 VW to FI (megasquirt). Rebuilding the Aisan is probably a week of downtime for me and this truck is in daily driver service. Installing a fresh carb is probably an afternoon and the way to go for me.

Thanks!

From looking at the pic, your 60 is partially(or fully) desmogged. Its possible that it's not been done correctly and is causing some of your issues. Or maybe it's correct and you just need a rebuild. If so, there is normaly a used carb for sale here for $100, you can then send it to Jim or Mark for a rebuild. Or send yours in (downtime) or look at Trollhole replacement.

Carb looks correct for a us fj60

If that's how the carb and associated stuff look inside the engine compartment while you're driving it, what I'm seeing isn't giving me much confidence that all the vacuum hoses are hooked up correctly.
