Hi folks. I'm trying to figure out a cheap way to have water on tap while fishing for cleanup and such, hand washing, rinsing salt water off gear, etc. A simple 3 or 5 gallon can would do fine but I'd like some kind of tap/spigot and hose to get the tap out of the truck, or maybe down off the roof. Perhaps I could eventually rig up a basin and fish cleaning table, but it all starts with the water supply and "faucet". All I saw were jugs with little taps on bottom, or gas can like deals with a pour spout, neither of which are really ideal. I know you guys have some good ideas in this area, so what do ya think?

I got a 15 gal rv watertank ,that I use for camping trips

I use a scepter water can. A hose n spigot kit from home depot n a pesticide manual pump that fits on the scepter spout. Put it all together fill up and you got water with decent amount of pressure..
I got the idea from EXPO...

It works great...!!!

^^^^^^^I need a pic of that

I have two of these

We have been using them for over 15 years, I replaced the spigots and vent caps last year on both of them. Coleman sells spare parts cheap, the postage actually cost more than the parts.

You can set the jug on a picnic table and put your dishpan on the bench for cleanup.

On the trail I set it one the tailgate, add a squirt bottle of camp soap and an old hand towel, that's a hit with the rest of the group at lunch time or after a trail repair. In camp I set one on a folding table we found at WalMart for $19 with a free 5 gallon pickle bucket under the spigot to avoid creating a mud pit. It's really nice to have a place to wash your hands after setting up a tent etc. everybody appreciates it.

One item I've admired are the water bladders made to fit inside the rear quarter panels. I know the Australians have 'em, so guessing they're made there? I know Spector had them at one time, not sure about other vendors here stateside. The nice thing is they're out of the way, yet handily available. Capacity was maybe 12 gallons?

They come with a short hose to draw water, but I'm sure could be adapted to a spigot somehow. Add a 12 volt pump and rigging a showerhead shouldn't be too big a deal. Let it get sun-soaked during the day and it'll even be warm.

Well I happened to be in Dicks sporting goods today and picked up one of these portable "solar" shower things. It'll do for now I guess until I can round up the parts for something better. Then maybe I'll return it. ;)

I've got one of those around somewhere. IIRC, it might just fit in a milk crate, which will make handling and transport somewhat easier.

I'll try to get pics, but I used a 5' section of 6" black abs pipe. Capped both ends. Threaded shutoff valve into the bottom of one end that a 5' section of hose attaches to with a spray nozzle. On the top of the other end I threaded in two adjustable pressure relief valves, one releases outward and one inward. If I remember correctly it holds about 8 gallons. Just put it on the rack and hook up a hose directly to fill. It heats up during the day, and with just gravity it runs for about 15 minutes. Plenty for showers and dishes.

Wow thanks guys. everyone's been helpful!

I think first I'm gonna put that bladder thing in a milk crate for now. (I was wondering how best to mount it up top. I put it in the back the other day which was good to have, but it's getting crowded back there) Then I'll rig up one of these great ideas. I like the PVC pipe on the roof idea. I'm gonna look into that and the others some more.

So where do I put the sink and tap??

:)

Depends on what you are willing to spend on this project, adn what parts you have lying around. If you want something a little more posh, try one with a pump to it and 15 gallon tank. basically a pesticide sprayer. you could route the hose out a window and install a foot pedal if you are McGuyver enough.
