Hey gang,

I did this about 4 years back, and can't remember all of the details. I am in Calgary, and am considering another import.

Can someone please remind me of the steps?

Also how picky are they on the 15year rule? The Rig I'm currently looking at is a June 1995 build. Not sure how long the shipping takes, or how sticky they are if the rig gets here and is a couple of months premature.

I am sorry if these questions are all answered a million times, but I have to pull the trigger on this pretty quick and don't have much time to search.. depending on the experts on this board!!

Thanks in advance!!

Thanks d0ubledown,

Do you remember what taxes/fees are required to be paid when the arrives in Canada?

Thanks again!

can't prove it, but I am confident that the 15 years (to the month of manufacture) is the legal import date, not a registration date

if I remember correctly...
$100 fee for air conditioning
6% duty
PST and GST (or HST if you wait long enough)
$35 agriculture inspection
dock fees, about $200 I think
$75 for the VIN

all numbers to the best of my failing memory

g'luck, -Steve

If it is imported early they can seize it and have it cut up or make you ship it out of country by a certain time limit, which is 1 month or 45 days i beleive

You can bring any year without a problem as far as customs is concerned ,you just cant register it in Canada if it less than 15 years,if you can get the manufature to declare the vehicle meets all Canadian standards you can even get a newer one registered but the manufactures wont do it.

just wondering...where are you looking for a truck? what site/auctions are you using? just kind of curious...and also do they ship to you (at your cost of course) or do you have to arrange for a 3rd party to get it to the docks and have it shipped?
