So my replacement rear axle doesn't have studs for the third member. It needs threaded studs, not pressed. I have 2 junk spare axles with studs but one has pressed in studs the other are threaded like I need. Some of these studs are being cooperative on coming out to put into the new axle and some are not. These are M8-1.25 threads, so I bought some new studs that are M8-1.25 but they wont thread in.
What am I missing here?

M8 - 1.25.webp

Did you try a larger hammer?

That's weird. I ordered my studs off rock auto and they fit fine, i have had horrible luck with using parts store/hardware store metric hardware. Perhaps some Neanderthal or someones little crotch fruit put the wrong fasteners in the wrong box at the store? How many studs do you need? I may have some Toyota ones laying around. Another option are button head bolts screwed in from the backside of the diff flange.

I bought them from Fastenal prepackaged in a box of 10.
Thanks for the offer Hoff but I didn't think about the bolt from the back side, I'll try that.

I Don't know why they would not thread in...

You should at least use bolts (hex head or button head... whatever) on the bottom holes rather than studs. That truck is a decent candidate for pulling the studs out of the housing. I would probably run bolts all the way around, or at least in as many holes as I can and stud the rest.

Yup, run bolts in through the back side. I use Allen heads that I get from work.

Dats what I will try, Thanks Fellas!

Tech thread posted.

Tech advice given.

Problem solved.

What has become of us?

I know, I need to apologize...I am sorry for such seriousness and realize that this is not the place for such things.
I will post else where that the problem was solved by forcing the bolts (not with a hammer B). For some reason all of the threads are super tight, kind of odd.

It's a pain in the ass when you encounter some super tight threads and you cant get your stud in there no matter how hard you hammer away and try.

Coming in from the backside may be easier.....

The first one I tried a couple days ago curled a thread like it was going to strip it so I stopped, that is when i posted up here. Last night I forced one cuz I didn't know what else to do and it didn't curl or strip just gave some resistance and they were all that way. I've never encountered that before.

Yea, I've always seemed to have luck running a tap through it first. Cleans everything up so it moves all nice and smooth like. No having to hammer away and risk jamming your stud and breaking it.

Yeah, sometimes you gotta tap that! Going in from the rear is nice! Gotta keep that stud from becoming a stripper.
