After working both sides a bit, you should be able to grab the lip of the outer race with a pair of small vise grips....wiggle it back and forth...if you cut the race correctly it should pop right out.

Race is out, you can see that the high speed grinder split the race allowing it to be removed

Here's the finished shaft, all cleaned up and ready for a new roller bearing

Excellent write up. I had to do mine back in the early 90's, but I have a spare that I just might do, now that you have laid it out so well. I wish I would have had this back then.
