The rotor is pretty stable so i don't know that it's the shaft.

By the way i went to check SOR.com and they have this video of a trip to Saudi. It's cuiser heaven!! they show this junk yard FULL of sweet 43's...you need to check it out

so what would I need to do besides putting another distributor in??

If you decide to put a dist. in it. do some checking around for prices. Call Bob at TPI. I bought a non-USA for my 74 when I had it. Also Check DUI (Davis Unified Ignition) for a HEI unit. That would be a huge improvement over stock.
