Do stock (78 Toyota Electronic) igniters go bad? I bought this used. Everything is wired correctly, and I have a good 12v to the positive side of the coil, but no spark.

I have swapped out 3 coils, 2 of which I know work, with the same result. I went to the effort of putting the old distributor setup back in, with the original coil, and it fired right up.

Whoa. You have a 1978-1980 electronic ignition. That ignitor has a two prong plug. Both sides get +12V. The only ground is provided through the mounting feet of the coil.

Do NOT connect 12V to one side and grd to the other.
This may cause all the smoke to leak out of the ignitor, rendering it ineffective.
